Ahh spring! The sun is shining brighter, the days are getting longer and the flowers are bursting with color. There are a lot of flowers that are synonymous with spring but none scream spring more than tulips. The delicate greens of these plants start to emerge from the Earth while winter is still in the air, bringing with it the hope of warmer weather soon to come.
Tulips, in my opinion, are the most colorful of all the spring flowers. They come in a wide variety of colors and are very easy to grow. Tulips or rather, tulip bulbs are planted in fall before the arrival of the first frost. They are great to use in borders and grow best when planted in full sun.
When you think of tulips, you may also think of Holland. Every year, from the end of March to the beginning of May, millions (yes, that’s right, millions) of tulips bloom in Amsterdam. The Holland Tulip Festival attracts thousands and thousands of people every year. But did you know that New Jersey has a tulip festival every year too? We do! Holland Ridge Farms in Cream Ridge New Jersey is the biggest U-pick flower farm in the United States. Every year, millions of tulips burst with color and every year, thousands of people visit the farm to enjoy these beauties. This year, we were lucky enough to go and it did not disappoint.
Holland Ridge Farms is a 300 acre farm, so it is very large but they had a complimentary hayride to give tired legs a lift. This year, they had over 8 million tulips blooming. It’s a great place to go with your family as they had pony rides for the little ones, along with food vendors, a gift shop, rescue animals, and lots of photo props and backdrops to get those Instagram worthy photos to post. The season runs for only 3 weeks and tickets must be purchased before attending. This is the last week that the flowers will be blooming, so get your tickets today! You will not be disappointed.
